A New Student's Guide to Campus Life at DACC

Starting college can be exciting and overwhelming. DACC prioritizes more than just going to classes and going home but rather emphasizes the importance of getting involved in your campus and meeting new people.
A Home away from Home
Campus Clubs are one of the easiest ways to meet people with similar interests. DACC has plenty of student clubs including The Chess Club, the Student Government Association, Theater Arts, Women in Technology and plenty more, giving students options among many different fields.
Join the Fun
Campus events give students another opportunity to bond with their community and take a break from heavy classwork. DACC hosts events such as resource fairs, welcome back fairs, workshops, and more. Work Where you Learn
DACC students looking for employment can find jobs, internships, and work study positions using NMSU/ DACC’s handshake. DACC also offers services that help students with interviews and job applications, making it easy for students to feel confident when applying for jobs on and off campus.

DACC offers free online tutoring and health support in person and online.
Students are offered 24/7 telehealth support using TimelyCare, and online service that connects students with licensed professionals, making it easy for students to get support right from their home.

DACC also offers online and in-person tutoring through the campus’s Virtual Success Center, and ARC Academic Readiness Center. This gives students easy, free academic support from subjects including biology, writing, math, and more.

Food for Thought
DACC has free supplementary food assistance called the FirstLight Comfort Casita, which provides free supplementary food and other necessities to current DACC students, staff, and faculty. The pantry distributes food baskets containing fresh produce, meat, canned goods, bread, and other pantry items, in partnership with Casa de Peregrinos.

Around Town
College is not all about attending classes and going home. As a student it's good to go out and give your mind a break.
Las Cruces has a great variety of outdoor activities including exploring the Organ mountains and hiking the scenic trails including Baylor Canyon pass, and Dripping Springs.
Old Mesilla Plaza, the heart of Las Cruces, is a charming historic village just minutes from Las Cruces, filled with shops, restaurants, and historic buildings. Stroll through the plaza to see landmarks like the former courthouse where Billy the Kid was jailed, and the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site.
Visit the Farmers Market in Downtown Las Cruces on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1: p.m., and a special night market held on the first Friday of every month. The market is a great way to support local businesses from food, drinks, clothes, art, and more.
